nanofiltration (NF)

A high-pressure membrane technology that uses a combination of sieving (physical straining through pores on the membrane surface) and diffusion mechanisms to separate particles of 0.002- to 0.005-micron diameter or more from influent. The small pore size of NF membranes requires high operating pressures, similar to reverse osmosis.
