7. Safety Objectives
Following completion of Chapter 7, students should be able to:
- THINK SAFETY.
- Develop a safety program for a water utility agency.
- Prepare and conduct tailgate safety sessions.
- Safely operate and maintain pumps and wells, with attention to the safety of operators and consumers.
- Inspect safety features of vehicles and equipment.
- Drive vehicles defensively and safely.
- Route traffic around a job site.
- Work safely in streets.
- Protect the motoring public and pedestrians from work areas in streets and sidewalks.
- Conduct a safety inspection of waterworks facilities.
The main purpose of this chapter is to make operators aware of the importance of safe procedures and of developing a safety program for their facilities.
