6. Safety Objectives

Following completion of Chapter 6, students should be able to:

  1. Think safety.
  2. Develop a safety program for a water utility agency.
  3. Prepare and conduct tailgate safety sessions.
  4. Operate and maintain pumps and wells safely, with attention to the safety of operators and consumers.
  5. Work safely in streets.
  6. Protect the motoring public and pedestrians from work areas in streets and sidewalks.
  7. Conduct a safety inspection of waterworks facilities.

The main purpose of this chapter is to make operators aware of the importance of safe procedures and of developing a safety program for their facilities.
