A measure of how heavy a substance (solid, liquid, or gas) is for its size. Density is expressed in terms of weight per unit volume, that is, grams per cubic centimeter or pounds per cubic foot. The density of water (at 39°F or 4°C) is about 62.4 pounds per cubic foot or 1.0 gram per cubic centimeter.
