certified operator

A person who has the education and experience required to operate a specific class of treatment or conveyance facility as indicated by possessing a certificate of professional competence given by a state agency or professional association. 

endrin (EN-drin)

A pesticide toxic to freshwater and marine aquatic life that produces adverse health effects in domestic water supplies.

ultrafiltration (UF)

A low-pressure membrane technology that seperates particles of 0.01-micron diameter or more from influent by sieving (physical straining through pores on the membrane surface). UF is more restrictive than microfiltration but less restrictive than nanofiltration.

grease fitting

A metal connector installed on bearings or other mechanical components to provide lubrication points for feeding lubricants without overflow or leaks. The fittings should be kept closed to block contaminants until the pressure from a grease gun forces them open, allowing grease to flow to bearing. Also called zerk fitting.

hydropneumatic (hi-dro-new-MAT-ick)

A water system, usually small, in which a water pump is automatically controlled (started and stopped) by the air pressure in a compressed-air tank.
