balling

A method of hydraulically cleaning a wastewater collection pipe or storm drain by using the pressure of a water head to create a high cleansing velocity of water around a cleaning ball. In normal operation, the ball is restrained by a cable while water washes past the ball at high velocity. Special cleaning balls have an outside tread that causes them to spin or rotate, resulting in a scrubbing action of the flowing water along the pipe wall.

turbid

Having a cloudy or muddy appearance.

static head

The vertical distance (in feet or meters) from a reference point to the water surface when the water is not moving. Also see dynamic head, dynamic pressure, and static pressure.

residual analyzer, chlorine

See chlorine residual analyzer.

hygroscopic (hi-grow-SKAWP-ick)

Absorbing or attracting moisture from the air.
