videotape

A magnetic tape for recording television pictures. Standard tapes also have a capacity to record a voice with the picture, or an audio accompaniment.

coupon

A steel specimen inserted into water or wastewater to measure corrosiveness. The rate of corrosion is measured as the loss of weight of the coupon or change in its physical characteristics. Measure the weight loss per surface area exposed to the water or wastewater per day.

desiccator (DESS-uh-kay-tor)

A closed container into which heated weighing or drying dishes are placed to cool in a dry environment in preparation for weighing. The dishes may be empty or they may contain a sample. Desiccators contain a substance (desiccant), such as anhydrous calcium chloride, that absorbs moisture and keeps the relative humidity near zero so that the dish or sample will not gain weight from absorbed moisture.

wholesome water

Water that is safe and palatable for human consumption.

drainage wells

Wells that can be pumped to lower the groundwater table and prevent ponding.
